An upshot of such efforts is the Ph. D. School in Economics and Management, where prospective business economists are provided with solid foundations in Microeconomics, Econometrics and Game Theory, and prospective economists are taught courses in Strategic Management, Corporate Finance and Organization, that should provide useful ideas in their choice of relevant research topics.
The Ph. D. Program in Economics and Management is structured with courses and exams completely in English. It regularly enrolls Italian and international students interested in improving their knowledge of modern tools in both theoretical and empirical economic and management analysis. Ph.D. students in Economics and Management are expected to produce analytical work and original research, that will enable them to start an academic career as well as to work for international organizations, public institutions, and large firms.
As of Academic Year 2011-12, all PhD Program activities are offered jointly with the Universities of Venice and Verona. Over twentyfive 3-year scholarships will be available for prospective students every year.
Applications for the next academic year are now open - see here
Deadline: 17 June 2011
Prospective candidates are strongly encouraged to apply for scholarships also at the Universities of Venice and Verona.
The Course Structure
The doctoral program lasts three years, with courses and exams in the first academic year and with thesis work during the final two years, part of which should be spent abroad. In particular, our students may benefit from several agreements between the universities of Padova, Venice and Verona and prestigious universities in the US, Canada and the UK.
During their first year students must attend courses and pass exams spread over three terms (October-July). Courses in the first term take place in Venice, in the second term they are instead taught in Padova. Third term courses are all elective, and are taught in Padova, Venice and Verona. At the end of the year, Padova students will be asked to choose between "Economics" and "Management". In the fourth term (September-November of the second year), students take extra courses in the area of their choice, and select their supervisor.
