The “Marco Fanno Prize” is awarded every year to the best paper published by a junior member of the Department – either an Assistant Professor, or an Associate Professor under probation. A committee of at least three Full Professors, representing the different research areas of the Department, is given the task of evaluating recently published or forthcoming papers. External referees may be asked to assess particular submitted papers. The committee may decide that the prize is to be shared, or that it is not awarded because of lack of suitably qualified candidates.
The prize amounts to 5,000 euros in research funds, and it cannot be given twice to the same individual. Co-authors of a paper awarded the “Marco Fanno Prize” who qualify for the prize (they are junior department members) share the prize money.
